The Department has its own specialized library for the benefit of students. It also has a separate research room for students. PhD students can also avail of the Dept's internet facilities.

Students have many opportunities to hear and interact with distinguished teachers and researchers and also students from other universities.

Annually two distinguished scholars are invited as visiting fellows, and students can avail of the opportunity of participating in their seminars. The grant has also enabled the Department to purchase equipment which students can avail of.

Every fortnight a seminar is held for students, conducted by an eminent person from social sciences or current affairs. Once a year, a field trip out of Mumbai is organized for students to gain exposure to the social and cultural realities of Maharashtra and neighbouring states and gain experience in fieldwork methods.

Under the Interuniversity Agreement for Cooperation between Otto-von-Guerike-Universitat Magdeburg, Germany which is operational since the year 2000, there is regular exchange of faculty between the two respective departments of Sociology. Graduate Students from Magdeburg University can take courses in the MA programme of our department which earns them credits in their own university. A letter of intent has been signed between the Universities of Mumbai and Bonn in 2003 for exchange and collaboration. As part of the preparation towards a formal MOU, the two departments of Sociology have commenced formal interaction.
