![]() Directors message It is a matter of immense pride and honour for me to be the director of Alkesh Dinesh Mody Institute for Financial and Management studies, University of Mumbai. The Institute provides a conducive atmosphere for the development of managers that have benefited greatly from the dynamic nature of the courses offered at the institute at bachelor and master degree level. India is on the threshold of the second decade of this millennium. In this decade, India will witness its golden age. Whereas developed countries such as the US, UK and Japan will face a talent shortage. India will witness a talent surplus. But, the truth remains that much of the talent pool is untapped. Thus, the task ahead is to strive a world class centre of learning as Indias destiny is being shaped in the classrooms. Management being as an integrated interdisciplinary social science subject deals with various aspects of organizational behavior and society growth. Therefore, the challenge before mash rooming management institutions is to bridge the gap between the curriculum and corporate requirements to make it as a better fit and to changes in the corporate sector. Since, management education is known for generalized approach rather than specialized approach. It has to follow some instructions for providing value education. It must ensure the mindset, work culture, behavioral and psychology apart from prior qualifications of candidates. The immediate challenge for management education is to enhance academic standards for upgrading the quality education, non-availability of adequate proficient faculty with positive thought and cooperation within the faculty with healthy competition is a major constraint for sustainable growth of quality management education in India. Globalization and IT revolution have put the Darwins Theory applied to economic activities i.e. Survival of the fittest. There are three new managerial skills have become highly relevant for managers to perform in modern organizations. These are IT skills, entrepreneurial skills and innovative and creative skills along with global outlook. The traditional list of managerial skills, which included inter-personal, conceptual, technical, communication and decision making skills stands extended today. The complexion of management education therefore, needs to be expanded in the light of above requirements. We all need to work hard collectively in way that all these skills are inculcated among learners in the process of education having the industry expectation in mind with vision and mission by considering various dynamics of managerial practices in modern organizations.
